Job Title:                Sr. Tunnel Project Manager & Sr. SEM / NATM Tunnel Engineer

Duties: Senior Tunnel Project Manager and Senior SEM / NATM Tunnel Engineer for heavy civil underground infrastructure projects, with specific focus on SEM tunneling (Sequential Excavation Method; also known as NATM - New Austrian Tunnel Method). Will lead the timely production of key deliverables from design, drawings, reports, specifications, and analyses in pre-set time periods. Will be responsible for the development of project documents, including reports, drawings, specifications, analyses, cost estimates and project schedule. Will manage and coordinate SEM tunnel and station cavern projects with clients, owners and third parties. Will manage the integration of the design information. Will head the commercial and contractual interactions, including claim management, with the client. Will lead the internal communication of the design principles between the engineering and the CAD team. Will lead tender and detail design as a design manager for SEM tunnel underground projects. Providing constructability review, and construction input to design process for on-site. Will work on construction site as a SEM design representative. Will supervise all SEM activities and works in the field, will supervise and lead the implementation of the RES (Required Excavation & Support) process, will lead and be responsible for all SEM engineers and SEM inspectors, and will coordinate and manage all SEM related tasks with the client, owners, and third parties. Will be responsible for decision making process, regarding SEM support measures, implementation, and adaptation of the design to conditions encountered, as well as changes to construction details as required. Will work as a tunnel safety inspector to inspect tunnel structural integrity, tunnel condition, tunnel inventory, and level of service. Will lead the tunnel safety inspection team in the field. Will perform Business Development and tendering efforts for tunnel underground projects. Will be responsible for growing business exposure, identifying new business opportunities and building client relationships. Will collaborate with team to align service offerings with client needs and stay current on industry trends. Will author technical papers about tunnel design and construction projects and will present them at respective industry tunnel underground conferences. Has ability to make hiring and firing recommendations.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related and 10 years of related working experience in design, construction, inspection, and supervision of mined tunnel structures.  Must have good written and verbal communication skills in English. Must have comprehensive experience in SEM tunnel design, supervision of tunnel construction projects, including urban metro and rail stations, cross passages, running tunnels, and emergency exit buildings. Must have comprehensive experience with SEM / NATM tunnelling in soft and rock ground conditions, multiple drift excavation & support, initial / final lining design, and waterproofing design. Must have experience with structural and geotechnical design of tunnels, the ground structure interaction, a high-level understanding of geotechnical engineering. Must have profound skills to write technical SEM/NATM reports and specifications to communicate tunnel project specific design and construction principles and processes with clients, owners and third parties. Must have comprehensive experience with tunnel safety inspection and leading a tunnel safety inspection team. Must have profound experience with managing, coordinating, and leading SEM team in the field. Must have comprehensive construction experience to supervise SEM construction activities in the field and to report to the Client. Must have experience to implement and supervise the RES (Required Excavation and Support) process on site. Must provide expertise on the construction of mined underground structures, specifically with respect to the excavation and initial ground support and the optimization of the construction means and methods to achieve a safe and cost-effective design. Must have experience with business development, identifying new business opportunities, and building client relationships. National and International travel required up to 50%.
