New Civil Engineer & Bentley Round Table Debate

Friday, June 29th, 2018

On Thursday 14 June, Sebastian Kumpfmueller, Senior SCL Engineer at London Underground's Bank Station Capacity Upgrade project, attended an exclusive round table debate organised by New Civil Engineer and Bentley with the focus on the tunnelling industry's readiness to embrace digital technologies.

Mark Hansford, New Civil Engineer Editor hosted the event with a group of technology focused tunnelling industry professionals including former ICE President Tim Broyd. The group discussed various aspects including the impacts and opportunities that different technologies are expected to have on our industry.

The aim of the debate was to provide input to a research report that will be produced by New Civil Engineer in collaboration with Bentley in October.

The debate topics included the possibilities of well-known tech giants to take control of the construction industry due to technological advantages, the replacement of humans through technology, and the introduction of available and innovative technology to the daily work processes.

With the recent launch of the Data Analysis and Tunnel Management (Datum) software which was developed in collaboration with ViewPro, Dr. Sauer & Partners has taken another step towards upgrading daily work processes with the support of digital technology. The software is successfully being used at the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade project in London, UK and the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project in Toronto, Canada.
